Abstract
A new variety of cereal, produced after many years of selection and field trial, may result in an increase of yield of perhaps 10% over earlier varieties. The losses of the food grains harvested in any one year have been variously estimated. Widely quoted estimates (FAO, 1946)are of the order of 5% to 6% for the total loss due to insect and fungal attack during storage..
