Abstract

In the present study, we developed an industry-related price model to investigate the impacts of increases in crude oil prices on the production costs and the price levels of the agricultural industry in Taiwan. Compared with the industrial sector, the price indices of the agricultural sector suffered a relatively lower impact from increases in oil prices. These effects resulted from the subsidy and acquisition policies implemented by the government with regard to the agricultural industry, and brought that Taiwan had long been overproducing agricultural products. Since the price level of agricultural products was low, farmers and distributors absorbed most of the increased costs.
