Abstract

Nineteen maize lines possessing monogenic and 1 digenic type of resistance to H. turcicum [Setosphaeria turcica] and 29 monogenic lines resistant to P. sorghi were evaluated at Kalimpong and Bajaura by exposure to natural infection during 1970 and 1971. On 20 lines, large wilt type lesions accompanied by profuse sporulation developed, indicating the presence of S. turcica strs. capable of attacking these lines. Evidently it is hazardous to rate these or similar lines as resistant on the basis of seedling stage tests alone
