Abstract

SCMV is widely distributed in NSW and was isolated from 10 plant spp. Following mechanical inoculation 27 native and introduced grass spp. became infected; 17 new hosts were recorded. Of 20 virus isolates from 8 host spp. only one, from sugarcane, did not infect Johnson grass (Sorghum halepense). The principal reservoir for SCMV is Johnson grass
