Abstract

In 2 years' trials, herbicides were applied pre-sowing after furrowing for irrigation and immediately incorporating the chemicals with a rolling cultivator adjusted to maintain the ridges and furrows. Maize was then sown on the ridges. This procedure prevented the possibility of bringing untreated soil to the surface, thus allowing S. bicolor seed to germinate. Among the herbicides tested butylate and EPTC at 4 lb/acre provided good control of S. bicolor. Injury was observed only in plots receiving cyanazine
