Abstract
From cultivators' field studies during 1970-71 it was concluded that an application of 25 kg/ha N, half drilled at sowing and the other half top-dressed four weeks later or applied as two urea sprays was the optimum treatment for farmers with limited capital. For farmers with greater capital an application of 25 kg/ha P2O5 in conjunction with N is recommended. Constructing a small bund around the plot and ploughing across the slope increased yields by 8%. Under such conditions, with sufficiently high yield potential, K applications may be desirable
