Abstract
In field trials in 1972, 18 grain sorghum hybrids had high in vitro OM digestibility (IVOMD), low tannin contents and had yellow, red, bronze or gold pericarps and 23 hybrids were low in IVOMD, high in tannin and had tan or brown pericarps. No hybrids were intermediate in these characters. Tannin content was related inversely to IVOMD (r = -0.97) but was not related to grain yield since bird damage was absent. Grain yields were 3.5-7.6 t/ha and IVOMD was 80-50%. It was concluded that the lower IVOMD values were not worth the grain saved from bird damage where sorghum was raised on large areas
