Abstract
Each rupee invested in fertiliser use brings in Rs 4.75 or Rs 3.94 or Rs 3.88 depending on the level of fertiliser use. These are handsome returns any farmer could wish for. The returns are ahout half of these in case of manulrial applications but still by no means small. Remember, again, these incomes and net returns are from a 5-month crop grown on the drylands. When nature smiles and late rains in November or December are receivee, a late crop of lentils may be raised. In that case there is more profit from the fertiliser or manure applied to the arhar crop
