Abstract
In a diallel cross of six Sorghum species, both additive and dominant effects controlled the expression of neutral detergent fibre (NDF) values and of in vitro dry-matter disappearance (IVDMD), whereas nonadditive effects predominated for protein content. There was overdominance for IVDMD and protein content, and partial dominance for NDF. Heritability was high for NDF, moderately low for IVDMD and low for protein content. For protein content, S. virgatum and S. sudanense had mostly dominant genes, and S. durra and S. caudatum had recessives. S. roxburghii and S. virgatum had dominant genes for IVDMD and NDF, S. caudatum had recessives for IVDMD and S. vulgare had recessives for NDF
