Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the year 2010 on theri soil to evaluate the effect of different organic amendments including tank silt and their combination on various physico-chemical, chemical and physical properties. The impact on groundnut crop was studied. The treatments of this study were tank silt (TS), farm yard manure (FYM) and composted coir pith (CP). The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. AH the amendments were applied and 30 days after drip irrigation, the soil samples were collected in each plot and analyzed. Groundnut was grown and the soil was again analyzed after the harvest of the crop. The yield of pods was 40.51% higher than control with the combination of CP and TS in equal combinations at 12.5 t ha-1. The pH, EC, bulk density (BD) and particle density (PD) have decreased in most plots. NPK content, percentage of water holding capacity (WHC), pore space (PS), saturated moisture (SM), organic carbon (OC) content and organic matter (OM) have increased. Hence, the fertility and productivity of the theri soil may be improved on sustainable basis using organic farming
