Abstract
Trombay Groundnut 17, having a flesh-coloured testa, was crossed as female parent with Chico, having a rose-coloured testa. The testas of the F1 were flesh-coloured, indicating dominance over rose. Wide variation in testa colour was observed in the F2 and F3. Segregation data indicated that purple testa is controlled by duplicate recessive genes, both necessary for its expression. It is concluded that recessive inhibitors are also involved in the expression of purple testa.
