Abstract
Two mutants with modified foliaceous stipules isolated after X-ray treatment of Spanish Improved were crossed inter se (fol1 X fol2) and with other forms. A third type (fol3) with modified stipules was obtained in the F3 from a cross between the two original mutants, one of which (fol2) showed monogenic recessive inheritance of the mutant character and the other (fol1) modified dihybrid inheritance. Information is presented on characters in which the three mutants differed from the initial variety. Although fol3 resembled fol1 at the seedling stage, it differed in having foliaceous stipules on the upper leaves as well as the basal leaves, indicating intensified expression of the mutant character, which may be due to the interaction of mutant genes of fol1 and fol2.
