Abstract

The agronomic activities under this project included basic research and preliminary evaluation of new fertilizers for rice at TVA in Alabama and by field studies in India, Thailand, Ceylon, the Philippines, Peru, Brazil and Columbia. The materials tested included various forms of nitrogen, phosphate and zinc. TVA results with nitrogen fertilizers showed that yie!J responses to sulfur coated urea (SCU) were reicited to dissolution; the release of N from SCU was slower under flooded than under drained conditions, with cyclic rather than continuous flooding, and with larger particle sizes of SCU. In 46 of 56 comparisons in tropical field tests, SCU was superior to urea as a basal nitrogen treatment
