Abstract
Antisera highly selective for the mycotoxin cyc1opiazonic acid (CPA) were raised in rabbits. A competitive enzyme-linked imro.unosorbent assay (ELISA) for CPA, with use of alkaline phosphatase as tracer enzyme, was developed. The assay measures from 30 pg to 2 ng of CPA and showed an interassay, between·day variability of 14 % and an intraassay variability of 3.7%. An .efficient selection technique was devised that allows detection of CPA, even at low levels. in fungal strains growing as agar surface cultures. No prec1eaning of the samples is required. The technique allows efficient monitoring for fungal isolates producing CPA.
