Abstract

Among the seed dressers tested, the lowest shoot bug population (18.53/5 plants) was recorded by thiamethoxam 70WS @ 3 g/kg seeds and was on par with imidacloprid 70WS @ 5 g/kg seeds, carbosulfan 25DS @ 20 g/kg seeds which recorded 21.33 and 23.40 shoot bugs/5 plants, respectively. Carbosulfan 25DS @ 20 g/kg seed and thiamethoxam 70WS @ 2 g/kg seed recorded almost similar reaction in respect of sorghum stripe disease expression (7.3 & 8.9 %, respectively). The thiamethoxam 70WS @ 3 g/kg seeds was very effective in hindering the disease incidence (2.5%) which was the lowest among the insecticides tested. Next best was imidacloprid 70WS @ 5 g/kg seed treatment by recording 4.3 % disease. The seed treatment by thiamethoxam 70WS @ 3 g/kg seeds resulted in higher net profit of Rs. 15902/ha which was on par with the seed treatment by carbosulfan 25DS @ 20 g/kg seeds (Rs. 15772/ha), imidacloprid 70WS @ 5 g/kg seeds (Rs. 15437/ha), imidacloprid 70 WS @ 2 g/kg seeds (Rs. 14663/ha) and thiamethoxam 70WS @ 2 g/kg seeds (Rs. 14573/ha).
