Abstract
In laboratory studies on the biology of Cicadulina mbila (Naude), a vector of maize streak virus in South Africa, females laid significantly more eggs on pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum (typhoides)) than on oats, maize, wheat or grain sorghum. More eggs were laid on the leaf-blades than on the leaf-sheaths. Development was quicker on sorghum and millet than on wheat, maize or oats. Wheat was preferred as a food-plant, but pearl millet was more favourable than the other food-plants for development
