Abstract

In field trials at different locations, using sorghum cv. CSH 1, Swarna, CSH 3, CSV 2 and CSV 6 in 1970-2, optimum sowing date was immediately after the onset of the monsoon. Progressive delays after this date caused subsequent reductions in grain yield from 37 to 318 kg/ha day. Sowing before the monsoon could only be advocated for regions where the onset of the monsoon could be predicted with certainty
