Abstract
In a study of two varieties at five planting dates in each of two years, Swarna was more infested by Contarinia sorghicola and CSH1 had the higher grain yield at all times. Swarna showed the bigger decrease in grain yield due to delayed sowing. The variety X sowing date interaction was significant in one year.ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:In irrigated trials with sorghum hybrid CSH-1 and cv. Swarna, delay in sowing at 1-week intervals from 26 June to 24 July decreased average grain yields from 4.4 to 1.94 t/ha in 1968 and from 3.07 to 0.82 t/ha in 1970. The incidence of Contarinia sorghicola was high on late-sown crops
