Abstract

In irrigated trials, sorghum hybrid CSH-1 sown at 45 X 15, 60 X 11 or 75 X 9 cm, corresponding to populations of 145 000, 144 000 or 132 000 plants/ha, gave grain yields of 4.27, 3.73 and 3.35 t/ha, resp. with water use efficiency of 93, 86 and 83 kg grain/ha cm water. Values for yield and water use efficiency were higher in crops thinned 2 or 3 wk after sowing than in those thinned 1 or 4 wk after sowing
