Abstract
In trials during 2 seasons with 3 sorghum genotypes grown at 133 300-177 700 plants/ha and given 60-180 kg N/ha, hybrid CSH-1 and the high-yielding cv. Swarna outyielded the local cv. Neerjola (4.4 t grain/ha) by 39 and 35%, respectively. Yields increased with N rates up to 120 kg/ha, but the optimum rate was 100 kg N/ha for the 3 genotypes. Higher N levels favoured faster ear emergence, thicker stems, longer peduncles and more leaves/plant. N effects were more pronounced on grain number than on single grain weight. Plant density had no effect on yields
