Abstract
10 or 20 p.p.m. Zn and P at 0.5 P or 1 P fixation-capacity were applied to a Zn-deficient medium-black soil and a Zn-sufficient lateritic soil. Available Zn, as determined by neutral NNH4OAc + 0.01% dithizone in CCl4, was positively correlated with DM production and Zn content and uptake in maize, and with DM of the succeeding sorghum crop in the medium black soil, but not in the lateritic soil. Available P as estimated with Olsen extractant in the medium-black soil and Bray P1 extractant in the lateritic soil was also highly correlated with DM yield, and the content and uptake of P in maize as well as DM yield in the subsequent sorghum. Adequacy of the available Zn and P in soils enhanced the uptake of each other, in spite of the antagonism in their plant content
