Abstract
The population dynamics of insect pests of pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum) were studied in the northern part of Madhya Pradesh, India, during the kharif (hot) season of 1980. Myllocerus undecimpustulatus var. maculosus Desbr., Longitarsus belgaumensis Jac. and Hieroglyphus banian (F.) were found feeding on the tender leaves before earhead emergence. Chilo partellus (Swinh.) damaged the stem, while Heliothis armigera (Hb.), Leptocorisa acuta (Thnb.) (varicornis (F.)), Oxycetonia versicolor (F.) and Spilostethus pandurus militaris (F.) (Lygaeus militaris) were observed feeding on the earheads. H. armigera appeared in large numbers on earheads of the crop sown on 24 June 1980 (1-5 larvae/cob)
