Abstract

Weed control studies with 2,4-D and atrazine in Pennisetum americanum under dryland conditions with normal rainfall in 1976 and high rainfall in 1975 showed that atrazine controlled weeds to 90% while 2,4-D controlled them to 36-76%. Weed control with handweeding or atrazine spray increased the grain yield to more than double; 2,4-D increased it by 40%. Atrazine at 1 kg a.i./ha had adverse effects on grain and fodder production during the wet yr. In general, atrazine at 0.5 kg a.i./ha was as effective as handweeding
