Abstract
Data are presented on the specific and general combining ability estimates of grain protein content of 49 Pennisetum americanum entries, comprising 36 F1s (derived from line X tester crosses of six cytoplasmically male-sterile lines with six pollinators), their 12 parental lines and one control, BJ104, evaluated at six sites. Grain protein content was predominantly controlled by nonadditive gene action. Among the male-sterile lines, 5141A, 5054A and 67A, and among the pollinators 2072 and 139, were the best combiners
