Abstract

A study of grain yield and six yield-related traits of 90 Pennisetum americanum hybrids, involving crosses of 30 inbred lines from India or Africa with three cytoplasmically male-sterile lines which were resistant to Sclerospora graminicola, revealed the presence of additive gene action for most of the traits. African lines gave better general and specific combining ability values than the Indian lines. Male lines R2527, IP577 and IP2053 and female line 5141A gave the best general combining ability values for grain yield
