Abstract

Methods of increasing food crop yields and enhancing soil fertility in the area are reviewed. Particular reference is made to matching crop requirements with rainfall, selecting crop cultivars which mature before the end of the effective wet season, controlling pests of sorghum, millet, groundnuts and cowpeas, controlling the parasitic weed Striga, which can cause serious damage to sorghum, millet and maize, and improving technology and the marketing system
