Abstract
Several techniques have been devised for the bioassay of growth subtances. Of these the classical 'Avena curvature' test is too laborious and variable (Went and Thimann, 1937). The 'straight growth' test with wheat and Arena coleoptile sections have also much to recommend them and comparative studies have shown that 'sensitivity' can be increased by employing sections of a particular size, or taking sections from different relative positions along the coleoptile or by the inclusion of sucrose in the medium (Schneider, 1938 and Nilsch and Nitsh, 1956)...
