Abstract
Seeds of a local cultivar of sorghum were pre-treated by soaking in solutions of 25 mg IAA/l, 25 mg GA3/l, 10 mg ascorbic acid/l, 200 mg B9 [daminozide]/l or 10 mg phosphon D [chlorphonium]/l, and were then sown in soil of low fertility under irrigated conditions. Pre-sowing treatment resulted in an increase (50-100%) of air-dry weight of the plant and also an increase in grain yield (30-40%) except when GA3 was applied. The maximum increase in grain yield was obtained with B9. AA, IAA, B9 and phosphon D gave increases in plant height, air-dry weight, leaf area, number of spikelets/plant and number of spikelets and weight of grain/panicle
