Abstract
Analysis of data from a 10 X 10 diallel excluding reciprocals in Pennisetum typhoides [P. americanum] revealed a high heterotic response in several crosses for harvest index but not for length of the grain-filling period, which tended to be longer in the parents than in their hybrids. Both traits were affected by additive and nonadditive gene action. Pb111B, a maintainer of cytoplasmic male sterility, was the best general combiner for both traits
