Abstract
Grain of sorghum cv. H610 was harvested at moisture contents of 37, 52.9 and 61.4% and ensiled as described in HbA 43, 1820. As moisture level increased, there was a decline in pH value of the silage and increases in microbial count, free ammonia and lactic-acid and VFA production. Starch and soluble carbohydrates decreased during fermentation regardless of initial moisture level. It was concluded that grain sorghum could be ensiled efficiently at moisture levels within th range 37-61%
