Abstract
Field tests were carried out in Georgia on the preference of Contarinia sorghicola (Coq.) for certain types of sorghum. The lines SPI29166 and CI938 were preferred to lines such as ODC19 (select) even under conditions of heavy infestation, but there was no discrimination between most of the sorghum lines when the midges were abundant. Up to a third of each generation of insects was found to overwinter in the seeds of the crop. Exit holes made by parasites were present in only 13% of damaged seeds, indicating a low rate of parasitism of C. sorghicola
