Abstract

The performance of 28 sorghum hybrids obtained from backcrossing derived pollinators with the female tester ATx645, as well as the hybrid of the recurrent parent (HRP), the hybrid of the donor parent (HDP) and the standard commercial hybrid (SCH) were evaluated in a field experiment conducted in Lubbock and Halfway, Texas, USA during 2001. One hybrid in Lubbock produced significantly higher harvest index than HRP. Six hybrids at Lubbock, one in Halfway and 5 in Lubbock + Halfway produced significantly higher harvest index compared to the SCH. One hybrid in Lubbockk and 7 hybrids at Halfway and Lubbock + Halfway produced significantly higher grain weight compared to HRP. In addition, 16, 6 and 67 hybrids in Lubbock, Halfway and Lubbock + Halfway, respectively, recorded higher grain yield compared to SCH.
