Abstract
Two field tests with seven insecticides were carried out in 1971 in the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh against Atherigona soccata Rond. (varia soccata) on sorghum, which has proved difficult to control in the past. Phorate as 10% granules in the seed furrow at sowing, carbofuran as a 75% wettable powder mixed with the seed before sowing at 3 parts powder to 100 parts seed, and mephosfolan (Cytrolane) as 10% granules in the seed furrow were all more effective in preventing dead hearts in the sorghum crop than were 5% granules of monocrotophos or disulfoton (Disyston), 4% granules of endosulfan or 10% granules of fensulfothion (Terracur)
