Abstract

Pearl millet cv. Gahi-3 (which had previously responded to inoculation with A. brasilense) and Tift 186 (which had not) were grown as seedlings in test tubes with inoculation at 4 X 108 or 4 X 105 A. brasilense cells/tube and a control with autoclaved cells present. Top and root development were repressed by inoculation and DM was reduced by c. 50%. The control plant tops and roots were higher in total N. The method proved unsuitable for predicting responses in the field
