Abstract

Glasshouse studies showed that soybeans strongly suppressed plant height and d.m. production in Echinochloa crus-galli. The least increase in the d.m. of E. crus-galli occurred when 1-week old seedlings were planted with 6- to 10-week-old soybean plants. There was a 3- to 4-fold increase in the total productivity of E. crus-galli during the last 5 weeks (weeks 11-15) of its competition with soybeans. E. crus-galli seedlings planted with 3-, 4- and 5-week old soybeans failed to produce caryopses. From summary
