Abstract
White grub, Holotrichia consanguinea Blanch., is a serious pest of groundnut crop in light soils in western districts of Uttar Pradesh. Besides groundnut, maize, sorghum, Bajra and soyabean crops have also been found damaged by this pest in these districts. Studies on the life history of this pest indicate that the beetles emerge with premonsoon showers in June. Egg laying starts at least a fortnight after the emergence of beetles i.e., in July with the onset of monsoon. Eggs are laid individually in the soil and there are three grub instars. Pupation occurs deep in the soil and pupal stage lasts about a fortnight. Adults are formed around November and remain in soil till they emerge in June next year. There is one generation of this pest in a year
