Abstract

Cultural and chemical control measures were evaluated in field-plot tests at Kunihar, India, in 1975-76 against adults of Heteronychus lioderes Redt. on maize. Early sown maize escaped attack. Pre-sowing in-furrow treatment at first ploughing with aldrin, gamma -BHC or BHC resulted in light infestation and was superior to similar treatment with parathion. In-furrow treatment with these insecticides at sowing proved to be significantly better than broadcast application at this time; aldrin, gamma -BHC or BHC at 3.5 kg a.i./ha gave effective control of the dynastid. Post-sowing treatment (a week after germination) with granules or sprays did not give significant control
