Abstract
Five intensified watering methods, including subsurface, trickle and mist applications, were compared with surface treatment. In 1971, all gave better grain sorghum growth, improved yields and higher water-use efficiency. The water-use efficiency from trickle and mist treatments was 42% higher than that from surface treatment. In 1972, water-use efficiency by trickle treatment was further improved by reducing the flow from 1.1 times the measured water depletion to 0.7 and 0.4 times that amount, but yields decreased from 9.21 t to 7.84 and 6.74 t/ha.
