Abstract

Increasing the fertilizer rate applied to sorghum from 30 kg N + 20 kg P2O5 + 10 kg K2O to 100 kg N + 60 kg P2O5 + 30 kg K2O/ha, in addition to a basal dressing of 7 t f.y.m./ha, increased yields of unshelled nuts by 170% in the following crop of groundnuts. Groundnut yields were similarly increased by increasing the rate of fertilizers applied to the preceding maize crop. The various cv. and hybrids of sorghum or maize differed in their effects on yields of the following groundnut crop; in general, high-yielding cv. or hybrids were associated with low yields in the succeeding groundnut crop.
