Abstract

A sample survey was carried out in 1968 on 75 farms in Harapanahalli Taluk, Bellary District, to study grain yield variability in hybrid sorghum cv. CSH 1 in relation to agronomic practices. Grain yields were 20.32 and 19.54% higher on black and clay to clay-loam soils than on red and sandy to sandy-loam soils, respectively. Ploughing twice gave a yield increase of 7.22% compared with ploughing once. Grain yields were increased by sowing in May and July instead of in June, by f.y.m. and N, and by 2 cultivations instead of 1. The average grain yield was 2.16 t/ha.
