Abstract

Insecticide residues in sorghum at harvest were determined following field treatments in Tamil Nadu, India, in 1977-78 with different formulations of DDT, HCH and carbaryl. No residues were detected in grain or straw following treatments of dust formulations of HCH or DDT at 25 kg a.i./ha., but emulsifiable concentrate and wettable powder formulations of these insecticides at 0.1% left considerable residues in both, although they were below the tolerance levels of 3.0 p.p.m. for HCH and 3.5 p.p.m. for DDT. Residues of dust formulations of carbaryl at 25 kg a.i./ha were detected in straw, and wettable formulations of carbaryl at 0.1% were detected in grain and straw, but all were below the tolerance level of 1.5 p.p.m
