Abstract

Four lines of Sorghum spp. with cytoplasmic male sterility and their normal counterparts were inoculated with races T and O of H. maydis (Cochliobolus heterostrophus). The only apparent susceptibility was to race O in the Sudan grass varieties Greenleaf and Sweet. Culture filtrates from race T differentiated between maize with normal and with male-sterile cytoplasm, but those from race O did not. Sorghum roots were not significantly stunted by either race, nor by those toxin fractions which were most inhibitory to maize root growth
