Abstract
Data from regression analyses on grain yield of 20 hybrid and 13 composite varieties of Pennisetum typhoides [P. americanum] at 19 sites in India indicated that a large proportion of significant genotype X environment interaction was due to the nonlinear component. Deviation mean squares were important in selecting stable varieties. Mean grain yield was positively associated with regression coefficients and deviation mean squares. Hybrids MH31, MH35, MH36 and MH62 and composite populations MP16, MP31 and MP36 possessed general adaptability. The use of dependent, independent and nearly independent measures of environmental values had little effect on the interpretation of the regression analyses
