Abstract

In field trials in 1968-71 with 15 cultivars of maize and 14 of grain sorghum, maize yields ranged from 2350 to 6080 lb/ac and grain sorghum yields from 2560 to 5570 lb/ac, limiting factors being quantity and distribution of rainfall. Date of sowing was less restrictive for sorghum than for maize and a ratoon crop could be taken, but sprouting in the ear with excessive rain at harvest and insect control problems were more serious with sorghum than with maize
