Abstract

Mechanical and chemical weed control are reviewed (see also Abs. 51). Weed species for which no satisfactory control measures are available include Sorghum halepense, Panicum texanum and wild cane (Sorghum bicolor). Wild cane is a forage-type sorghum which infests >1 million ac in Kansas and Nebraska; heavy stands have reduced sorghum yields by >50%. Infested fields have eventually to be taken out of sorghum production.-P.K.
