Abstract
Larvae of the noctuid Spodoptera frugiperda were collected from sorghum in Honduras and Mississippi in August 1984 and reared in the laboratory on sorghum or maize at 27°C and LD 14:10. Head capsule widths were measured to determine instar change. Larval development time was shorter for insects from Mississippi than for those from Honduras. There was no difference in development time between larvae of the same colonies which were reared on different food plants. The duration of prepupal and pupal stages did not differ between insects on different food plants or of different geographical origins. Adults from Mississippi were more fecund than those from Honduras and insects fed on maize appeared to be more fecund than those fed on sorghum
