Abstract

Pigeon pea cv. Lahu (Musoe) was grown at plant densities of 1, 2 and 4 plants/m2 or at 1 X 1 m spacings with 4 plants/hill and given 0 or 400 kg rock phosphate/ha with 0 or 100 kg gypsum/ha. Seed yield increased with increasing plant density from 255 to 801 kg/ha in 1976 and from 400 to 940 kg/ha in 1977. Corresponding yields for the 4 plants/hill treatment were 386 and 246 kg/ha. Seed yields were increased to an equal extent by the 2 fertilizers alone and further increased by their combined application from 257 to 373 to 664 and 849 kg/ha in 1976 and 1977, resp. Fertilizer application increased DM yield, pod yield and seed yield/plant while these components decreased with increased plant density. Neither treatment affected seed yield/pod or seed wt
