Abstract

When male buffalo calves, weight 120-130 kg, were given to appetite for 60 days as sole ration green fodder of PBN-83, -87, -20 and -71 hybrid strains of pearl millet-Napier or a standard NB-21 variety the respective daily DM intakes were 2.96, 2.69, 2.40, 2.34 and 3.05 kg/100 kg bodyweight. In a metabolism trial with PBN-83, PBN-87 and NB-21, digestible crude protein was 5.25, 5.16 and 5.67%, total digestible nutrients 67.94, 66.95 and 67.92%, and nitrogen balance 27.8, 16.6 and 27.9 g daily, respectively.
