Abstract
The F2 population of two intervarietal crosses of sorghum studied for six different characters, plant height, flowering date, number of leaves, 100-seed weight, grain yield per plant and fodder yield per plant. In all the characters studied, a large genotypic variation was observed and all of them except 100-seed weight exhibited heterosis in the F1. The broad sense heritability estimates were high for grain and fodder yields and coupled with a high genetic advance; probably the additive gene effects are predominant. Hence, early testing is likely to prove useful in selecting high yielding segregates.
