Abstract

The yields of seed and by-product leaf of Kikuyu grass cv. Whittet were studied during 2 years at 5 sowing rates of 5.6-89.6 kg seed/ha and at 4 rates of N application. Rainfall distribution was favourable in the 1st but not the 2nd year of the study. In the 1st year, yields of seed and by-product leaf increased with sowing rate but in the 2nd year the yields decreased. Increasing the N rate from 0 to 224 kg/ha reduced seed yield, but increased the yield of by-product leaf in both harvest years
